Oscar Night America in South Beach

January 21, 2009 by SouthBeachDaily

Here’s an event during South Beach Wine & Food Festival that looks like great fun…

Oscar Night® America Sobe Style hosted by celebrity chef Bobby Flay and actress Stephanie March, to benefit the Miami Beach Film Society and Cinematheque, will take place on Sunday, February 22, 2009 at the graceful venue of Henry Hohauser’s 1930s Paris Theatre, during the 2009 Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival.

“We are extremely happy to see how Oscar Night® America has grown in success in Miami in the seven years we have been the officially sanctioned beneficiary,” says Miami Beach Film Society and Cinematheque founder and director, Dana Keith. “This year, with hosts Bobby Flay and Stephanie March, it will prove to be the most exciting and successful yet!”

Beginning at 6:30 PM with the Red Carpet Arrival, guests will stroll into a lobby replete with fabulous drinks and all manner of gourmet hors d’oeuvres. The live telecast of the 81st Annual Academy Awards® begins at 8:00 PM, and will be featured on large screens to add to the Hollywood ambiance. Miami’s only officially sanctioned event of its kind, Oscar Night® America will include the delicious decadence of wine and food, and the glitz and glamour of classic Hollywood, complete with a red carpet, giving revelers the chance to view the Academy Awards® in true Sobe Style.

Adding a boost of star power: famed restaurateur, author and TV celebrity chef Bobby Flay will serve as the evening’s host, along with actress Stephanie March, best known for her role on the television series Law & Order: SVU. Two-time Emmy award-winning reporter and anchor of the highest-rated news station in South Florida, the beautiful and charismatic Laurie Jennings from WPLG Local 10, will serve as the evening’s master of ceremonies. A parade of other big names – from the movie and culinary arenas – will be on hand to complete the Hollywood flavor right here in South Beach. With a menu directed by Bobby Flay, decadent Godiva sweets to savor and the Moët & Chandon champagne flowing freely, the evening will surely be a night to remember!

Officially sanctioned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, Oscar Night® America Sobe Style follows in the 15-year-old tradition of charity fundraisers built around one of America’s most exciting nights of television viewing. Nominations for the 81st Academy Awards® will be announced on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 5:30 a.m. (PST).

The Paris Theatre is located at 550 Washington Avenue on Miami Beach. Tickets for Oscar Night® America are $200 per person.
